Our October 2019 Wedding

#DEVNFRANSAYIDO + #happilyaveryafter

Devan and I got married on October 20th, 2019 (my 30th birthday, yay birthday/anniversary in one! Iā€™m happy for it, really lol). While everything didnā€™t go 100% according to plan, it was still everything I ever wanted and one of the best day of our lives.

The details:

budget

$20,000. For the most part, we stayed within budget. We had a longer 1.5 year engagement so that we can save up, but at the same time we decided that we would also go under contract to build a home. šŸ™ƒLetā€™s just say that between saving for a wedding and a houseā€¦ funds were tight, but we did it!

The theme

Jewel-toned modern meets boho-chic, but more on the modern side.

How many guests

We had a small (to us) gathering of roughly less than 100 of our closest family and friends.

The venue

The Union on 8th in Georgetown. We knew from the moment we walked in that this was it. The airstream in the back was a big selling point for us. It was the perfect mix of modern/boho-chic/industrial + greenery that we (Fran lol) were looking for.

Ceremony Dress

Winnie Couture. I found my dream dress on my very first day of looking and during my last of 3 boutique appointments that my maid of honor, Sloane, set up. My mom, Nanay (grandma), and Sloane were all with me when I said yes to the dress. šŸ™‚

Reception Dress

I needed a reception dress because of course the ceremony dress of my dreams was a mermaid dress. And with most mermaid dresses ā€“ it was so tightā€¦ it fit like a gloveā€¦ and I could barely dance. Shout out to one of my best friends Rocky Boston though! She made me the most freeing, beautiful reception dress that I danced away the evening in.

Bridesmaids

I had a vision for these bridesmaids dresses. I knew I wanted jewel tones. They. are. my. absolute. favorite. colors! Second I knew that I wanted off the shoulder. I browsed so many bridal websites but ultimately they all felt too generic for me. I knew I could ask Rocky, but Iā€™m that weird friend that felt bad for asking because I know how busy she was. But of course, she came through! She knew exactly what I wanted to delivered the bridesmaids dresses of my dreams! Perks of having designer friends. So thankful for her ā€“ really.

Groom + Groomsmen

TheBlackTux.com. Their rental process was super easy to use and we loved the assortment of available suits they had available. To switch it up a bit, instead of the groomsmen wearing formal white shirts we opted to have them in black turtlenecks instead. We loved how it turned out!

Cake + Cookies

The Vegan Beggar. A local Austin, TX baker. Destinee did so amazing yā€™all. I literally stumbled across her by watching the Food Networkā€™s Christmas Cookie Challenge and I got so excited by the fact that she was black and from Austin! (#supportblackbusiness when I can). Weā€™re not even vegan, but this cake tasted just as good as if it werenā€™t. We went with it. We had the greatest vegan wedding cake (that was good according to the guests, we didnā€™t even have time to have any other than a taste šŸ˜). She also made us the greatest salted sugar cookies with my requested Drake lyrics pipped on on them. Book her yā€™all.

Flowers

Went the most affordable route here and used HEB Floral. They werenā€™t what I wanted and requested at all. Day of I when I saw them, I just had to make the decision to force myself to like them and let it go. lol This part of the budget was tough for me. I wanted flowers - yes, but I didnā€™t want to spend so much money on something that literally only lasts that day.

DJ

Quite possibly the most important gig for me. Thank you so much to DJ Kay Cali for coming to our rescue after our initial DJ unfortunately couldnā€™t make it. This was the biggest stress of them all for me. We had one day to find a replacement DJ. The stress in it all was like none other. It all worked out in the end though! We had a great time DJ Kay Cali handled our whole situation with so much grace and understanding. I kept thanking her all night. So much dancing, we had a great time.

Printed Materials

I designed them all myself! We opted for digital invites using Paperless Post and we printed physical save-the-dates and programs through Moo.com. Iā€™ve used Moo for years to print so many things. I used their Super product with the Soft Touch finish for my printed materials. It literally felt like a smooth velvet, I love it.

Photography

Brio Weddings. Iā€™ve known Brio for years and it was an easy choice when we were looking for photographers. She did an amazing job, just look at the photos! They speak for themselves.

Videography

My friend Nikki and her husband Marcos shot our wedding video. It was their first wedding video and they killed it! Watch below. šŸ¤—
